Giant Schnauzer Wins Dog Show
Bayou, a four-year-old black Giant Schnauzer, has snapped a string of “also rans” for the breed at major national dog shows by claiming the coveted Best in Show award at the 2021 AKC National Championship, held December 18-19, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. The milestone marks the first time ever that a Giant Schnauzer has won the event.
The AKC National Championship hosted more than 5000 dogs competing first for Best in Breed and then Best in Group titles, ultimately advancing the top seven dogs to the Best in Show competition. “Bayou” went into the AKC event as the top-ranked Giant Schnauzer and the #10 Working Group dog in the country.
Bayou the Giant Schnauzer
“Bayou” is the call name of GChG. Lagniappe’s From The Mountains To The Bayou, a black Giant Schnauzer owned by Holly and Chris Reed with Laurie Mason & Mike Mason of Port Allen, Louisiana.
Bayou was bred by the Reeds, along with Mike Reese and the late Maryann Bisceglia. Giant Schnauzer lovers will remember Bisceglia as the breeder of Ty the Giant Schnauzer, winner of the Working Group competition at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2018.
We found a fun television interview given by Reed and Bayou to George Stephanopoulos of ABC’s Good Morning America in early January 2022.
We think you’ll enjoy this video embed of the TV interview, courtesy of the GMA channel on YouTube.
